Since 2000, the American Museum of Natural History's Education Department has authored ten online science courses, each six-weeks in length and extending the resources of the Museum beyond its walls to a national audience of educators.
Seminars on Science is now an outstanding professional development program, recognized with numerous industry awards and, perhaps more importantly, a devoted base of learners who laud the courses as some of their best learning experiences towards teacher recertification.
As Seminars on Science grew, so did its marketing website, and this latest instantiation represents months of planning and research. The combination of a finely-tuned marketing message and a fresh, clean design are merely on the surface of the site requirements that were recommended to the program by outside consultants and leaders in the field.
This new site incudes a more in-depth presentation of each course, as well as a dynamic content management system, both at the heart of the site realignment. The small course catalog affords the luxury of a more complete story about each course... and provides prospective learners the opportunity to understand what to expect when they signup. Behind-the-scenes, the site features a robust system of databases allow information to be shared throughout the site in a smart and efficient manner; updates are now simple enough for a layperson to handle.
