"Life" tells the heartbreaking and stirring story of Michael, a twenty-something walking through every day completely unaffected by the world around him. Then when life throws him a curveball, things are set into motion that will change his life forever.
One day. Sixteen hours. $200 budget. No permits or licenses in place. A cast and crew of 45. And a 75% chance of rain. Not exactly the ideal combination of factors to shoot a five-minute music video for an up-and-coming emo rock band called Brightmoor. But as it turned out, we had a few things in our favor that day.
Intentions.
The success of this project was in large part due to
the clear goal of the production team: tell a story that alludes
to the song's powerful lyrics but reaches for a deeper message
of hope. Landing on the artistic direction of the music video
early in the process was essential to completing the project
on time (a submission deadline for a local film festival).
Planning.
A typical video shoot of this magnitude usually takes
a minimum of a week to complete. But with over two months of
careful and detailed preparation allowed us to turn our scheduled
2-3 day shoot into a breezy sixteen hour affair. The broad scope
of the subject matter all the way down to the minutia of transportation
and camera lens covers.
Teamwork.
From beginning to end, the full music video ensemble
— both in front and behind the camera — worked in
concert to produce a work we could all be proud of in the end.
The close collaboration of director, director of photography
and casting director with Brightmoor band members allowed the
goals and plans of the project to be a clear message to the full
cast and crew.
