What Designers Want

I was recently asked what I want for my birthday, so I thought it might be a worthwhile exercise to share some ideas to that end. My friends at Jedidiah make incredibly cool clothes... and their Repeat Tee rocks. If you haven't heard about TOMS Shoes, it's high time you order a pair of these and give a pair to a kid in need. My buddy Amit has the wildly gravity-defying Monsterpod in his store... perfect for the next time we get together and take portraits of ourselves... while listening to quality tunes from Luke Brindley... and discussing the upcoming asparagus growing season. One of my favorite cartoons is a highly designed series called Samurai Jack which is also on DVD. And where would a kid at heart be without Lane Smith's John, Paul, George, & Ben or Greg Mortenson's Listen to the Wind? No matter how many grownup books I read, it never comes close to the joy I get out of the illustrated variety. Which brings me to one final idea: a bit of 20th century wisdom, pinned up with some ingenious 21st century tacks.
