Driving Miss Patti

Every once in a distance while, I can't resist making absurd posts like this. While doing research on an upcoming publishing project, I came across this interview series called 21 Questions by New York Magazine, including one with R&B diva Patti LaBelle. Previously, I had only read all the way through 21 Questions for Sarah Vowell (What's your brand of jeans? "That blue kind"). But that all changed after my friend Rachel spotted this gem in Patti's interview:

"When's the last time you drove a car?

It was about 40 years ago, before I got married. My boyfriend at the time, Armstead, was teaching me to drive in his Thunderbird. I drove it into a tree."

At which point Rachel quipped: "Well they spelled your name wrong, but the good news is you look great for your age." I couldn't agree more. See the full-size photo...
